About Margaret Blanchfield
Thank you for visiting my web site. My passion in life is creating -- painting, sketching, making things with my hands. I am a Sacramento artist originally from Napa, CA and I have been painting and teaching for over 20 years. I started as a watercolor purist, but my work has evolved and now includes acrylics, mixed media and collage.
Inspiration comes from photographic images, scenes in nature, or fragile dream fragments. I love the creepy and bizarre, the magic of fantasy and possibility, and the surprise that comes with creating. When I start a new project, I rarely know what the end result will be and I let my art take me where it may.
I'm attracted to bold, vibrant colors as you will see in many of my paintings. I love the rhythm and surprise that watercolor produces as it flows onto the paper, mixing and interacting with other colors. Watercolor yields unexpected results and one must learn to let the paint do its magic; it's so much like letting life take the lead. I start with random splashes of color and merging hues, and then find the story in the paint.
When I'm not painting, I am teaching elementary school art and finishing off the raising of my two nearly-grown sons. I also enjoy sharing my creative side through art classes and workshops where I teach art journaling, SoulCollage(R), watercolors, acrylics and mixed media at my studio, Sacramento Art Classes.
